The objective of preparing the Polarpedia – a web-based encyclopedia about the polar regions – is to provide teachers and students with educational support that can facilitate their scientific learning activities. Polarpedia explains in detail polar phenomena, polar research topics and key scientific terminology. Polarpedia also contains educational resources explaining natural processes and phenomena in formats interesting to children and young adults, including short movies and interactive animations.
At the moment, Polarpedia is supplemented by glossaries in five European national languages besides English (French, German, Polish, Norwegian and Danish). Schools can request that additional glossaries be created in their own language.
Having these resources available all in once place is a big help for both students and teachers alike prepare for webinar lessons, allowing them to become familiar with a subject and specialised terminology before each webinar lesson.
